 To keep our Democratic voice strong in Suffolk, we are challenged to build our Party and to support our candidates. There's no doubt about it: Financial contributions from individual supporters are absolutely necessary so our message can get out to the voters. It's true that Suffolk Democrats who win tough races do it with the help of scores of people who believe in their candidacy and in what they stand for as Democrats. Just look at District Attorney Tom Spota's splendid win in 2001 - hundreds of volunteers knocked on doors, attended fundraisers, staffed phone banks, and completed all the labor-intensive tasks that can only be accomplished through the efforts of dedicated and committed volunteers. But there's more to it than that, it takes money to pay for phone banks, to contract with local TV and newspapers for political advertisements, to design and print campaign brochures - and then to mail them! It takes money to pay for what's needed in a winning campaign, from bumper strips to pizzas for the volunteers who work at headquarters. Suffolk's Democratic Party, and the campaigns of our Democratic candidates for public office from County Executive to Tax Receiver, couldn't happen without the contributions of individuals, labor unions, the business community, and those who agree with our position on important issues.
